Inspired by @amyleigh_1902victorian 's post about who we could include as #DearestDwellers for #52WeeksOfHomeWeek8, so I dug out the history file. #ClaryFarmhouse used to be a bed and breakfast, and the former owners left us a history file with these photos and names attached. I'm very intrigued by the photos, and want to know more. I am especially curious about the figure in the back left of the first photo... I have been unable to find any information about enslaved people on this land, and it seems the first house was built after emancipation. I DO know that the white family would not have kept this house up on their own, and the house itself tells us this with the presence of a "help" bathroom out on the carport.... I also find it interesting that this house has always been filled with women; the Moore family had sons, but most of the photos are of the daughters, and I love seeing their photos through the years. #52WeeksOfHome

#52WeeksOfHome is all about #DearestDwellers this week. Our dearest dwellers are pup #HarryClary, and #MissFrances the loudest cat to ever meow (as seen in her second photo). They are loving the #ClaryFarmhouse since it has stairs to run up and down, lots of sunlight, and an echoing upstairs hall perfect for KittySinging. Last photo is me and the husband, the human dwellers here. #52WeeksOfHomeWeek8 #dogsofinstagram #catsofinstagram #catstagram #oldhouselove

Everyone, I present to you, #HarryClary, best boi, part time French Girl, and all the time sweet snug.

#52WeeksofHomeWeek7 is all about lighting. This house has incredible natural lighting seen throughout these photos. I rarely turn the lights on during the day. The second photo in the bathroom is not a black and white photo, by the way. Also featured here, #MissFrances looking out the window by an electric candle from the front porch looking in (she misses going outside), and also Miss Frances basking in her favorite sunny spot in the bar. I love the shadows from the fixtures in the hallways. We dont have any original fixtures, but I am thrilled every room has a ceiling fan (except the dining room) for these upcoming coastal SC spring/summer/fall hot days (many over 100 each summer). Cant wait to see everyone elses much more exciting lighting for #52WeeksOfHome! #claryfarmhouse

This week for #52WeeksofHome the theme is self portrait... my self portrait selfie game is vastly improved by all the gorgeous light in this house! I took this in my bedroom this morning before work. So me! I am a professor of history and public history at a medium sized state school in South Carolina. I have a background in museums and historic houses, as well as in accessibility and disability history at these institutions. Currently I'm writing about dead folks in museums! Buying a historic house was really just my fate in life. So professoring comes with a lot of BS and bureaucracy and meetings and committees and blah blah blah, but today I had 2 really fantastic reminders of why what I do is so important. I want to remember this when, like today, I'm frustrated with paperwork and all the extraneous yet necessary (well, sometimes) part of my job. Students: tell your teachers and professors when something is meaningful/impacts you/whatever. It really sustains us. Looking forward to next week and introducing the rest of the #ClaryFarmhouse inhabitants! #oldhouselove #52weeksofhomeweek or is this week 4?? I hope its five. It's not Six already is it? Shit. Lol I am editing now cause turns out is #52weeksofhomeWeek6!
